The man who changed the game for the Miami cocktail scene
Meet Gabriel Orta, a renowned mixologist, is the co-owner of Bar Lab – a one-stop-shop consulting agency and internationally recognized hospitality management company.
Orta, alongside his business partner Elad Zvi, have been shaking up the Miami nightlife scene for years and have no intention of slowing down.
The pair launched their first bar – Broken Shaker at the Freehand Miami – in 2012.
Broken Shaker was originally meant to be a temporary 30-day pop-up installment. But its instant popularity ultimately led to a partnership with the Sydell Group, which gave the Broken Shaker a permanent home, cementing its legendary status amongst tourists and locals alike.
Fueled by the success of their pioneer venture, the duo later went on to launch additional restaurant concepts, as well as additional locations for Broken Shaker, in major cities across the United States including Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.
They also cofounded local Miami favorites 27 Restaurant, Taqueria Hoja, Margot Natural Wine and Aperitivo Bar and the Anderson with each venue is designed to offer a one-of-a-kind experience and serve as a reflection of the community in which it resides.
Today, the original Broken Shaker location in Miami serves up a variety of tacos, burgers and of course, hand-crafted signature cocktails.
In fact, it’s Orta’s unique take on cocktails has made him a sought-after commodity in the Miami restaurant scene.
His inventive Chorizo Cordial, for example, is a smoky, spicy take on the classic sweet liqueur that is used in many of his cocktails.
In recent years, Bar Lab has been awarded several accolades and honors including Outstanding Bar Program and a ranking on the World’s 50 Best Bars list. Bar Lab is also the two-time winner of the Spirited Award at the Tales of the Cocktail for Best American Hotel Bar. And The Anderson was voted one of Esquire’s Best Bars of 2018.
