A place to be seen, take in the views of Brickell Bay, and enjoy some Mexican-style tapas
My husband and I are Miami transplants.
We moved from Tennesee to Miami in 2018, and made a home in Brickell for the first several years.
Brickell, for the uninitiated, is the financial district of Miami. The area is known for its ultra-lux high rises, its party scene, crazy drivers and quite frankly, its astoundingly good-looking people.
Needless to say, it’s an interesting place.
It’s also a place to see and be seen.
And if you’re looking for a place that embodies the soul of Brickell, perhaps there is no place that does so quite like La Veinte (aka La 20).
La Veinte Cantina is a two-story eatery located in the Icon. The Icon also happens to be one of the only residential properties in Brickell that allow Airbnb rentals – so the spot tends to attract a lot of locals as well as out-of-towners.
The first floor features open-air dining with water views of Brickell Bay as well as a bar. The second floor features indoor dining with a dark yet modern high-end aesthetic, and again because it’s Miami, a second bar.
La Veinte is known for its fusion of traditional Mexican recipes and Avant Garde techniques.
What’s on the menu?
The menu features a selection of salads, soups, tacos, meat, seafood and small plates to share. They also have several gluten-free options which are clearly marked.
Entree prices, which aren’t listed on their website at the time of this writing, vary from $21 (for Arroz Verde De Cilantro) to $105 (for a 32oz Tomahawk Rib Eye).
If you’re planning on dinner and drinks, budget at least $40-$50 per person. Budget $60-$80 per person if you’re planning on a second round.
When’s the best time to go?
The best time to visit La Veinte depends entirely on your mood.
If you want a calm, relaxing experience, I suggest visiting early when the doors open on a Saturday or Sunday for “brunch” around noon.
Brickell crowds are somewhat predictable in that they aren’t exactly a group of early risers. Most are still in bed recovering from their Friday night festivities by noon the next day, so you’ll have no trouble finding a seat.
Although it may be important to note, there is no specific brunch menu available at La Veinte. You get the same food no matter what time of the day you go.
If you’re looking for a party, live music or special events (like the occasional free margarita night for the ladies), just about any night at La Veinte is a hot night – with Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings drawing in the largest crowds.
And I highly recommend making a reservation as this two-story venue tends to fill up quickly on an event night.
